How to play
Today's flake fell through five layers of sky, from the cloud top to the ground, and grew one ring in each: its centre is the cloud top, its edge the ground. Set each layer's temperature and dampness, and let your flake fall. Rings that match are marked, and you have six falls to grow it whole (seven from Squall).
- Temperature chooses the shape: plates at −2°, columns and needles at −5°, sector plates at −10°, stars and fern-like dendrites at −15°, plates and columns again at −22°.
- Dampness chooses how far it grows, and how fancy: dry air grows plain plates or short columns at any of them, and the fern-like arms grow only in wet air. The chart below shows every one.
- Plates that grow after arms grow on the arms' tips.
- Air changes gently: each layer of today's sky is no more than one step warmer or colder than the one above it.
A flake grown on the first fall scores 1,000, and each fall after takes 100 away. Once it is done, the lab is yours.
