Inside a thunderstorm, a hailstone grows a ring of ice each time the updraft carries it up through the supercooled cloud. Steer it into the updraft to rise and out of it to fall, and grow it as big as you can before it lands, on the hail pad if you can.

How to play

Your hailstone rides in a thunderstorm. The updraft, rising up the middle of it, wanders left and right and grows stronger and weaker.

In the updraft the stone rises; out of it, the stone falls.
Rising through the supercooled band, where cloud water stays liquid below freezing, it gains ice: a ring for every trip or so. Real hailstones show their trips as rings when they are cut in two.
Bigger stones fall faster, so they need the updraft's strong middle to rise at all.
Below the freezing level the stone melts a little; too high, and the anvil throws it out.
After two minutes the storm dies away and everything comes down.

A hundred points a ring, and when it lands, a hundred more, or three hundred on the hail pad. 1,000 brings the Hailstone stamp.
